Quick solutions to the most frequently encountered problems on Ethikal.

Login & Account Issues

Can't Log In

Symptoms:

  • Wrong password error
  • Account not found
  • Login page refreshes

Solutions:

  1. Check your credentials

    • Verify email/username spelling
    • Check caps lock is off
    • Try copying/pasting password
  2. Reset your password

    • Click "Forgot Password?"
    • Check email for reset link
    • Create new password
  3. Use OAuth login

    • Try "Continue with Google/Apple"
    • If previously connected, should work
  4. Clear browser data

    - Clear cookies and cache
    - Close all browser tabs
    - Restart browser
    - Try logging in again
  5. Try different browser

    • Use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
    • Disable extensions temporarily
    • Try incognito/private mode

Account Locked

Symptoms:

  • "Account temporarily locked" message
  • Too many failed attempts

Solutions:

  1. Wait 30 minutes

    • Automatic unlock after 30 min
    • Don't try logging in during this time
  2. Use account recovery

    • Click "Forgot Password?"
    • Reset via email
    • Unlocks account immediately
  3. Contact support

Two-Factor Authentication Issues

Lost access to authenticator app:

  1. Use recovery codes

    • Enter recovery code instead of 2FA
    • Each code works once only
  2. Use backup 2FA method

    • SMS if configured
    • Email if configured
  3. Contact support

    • Provide account details
    • Verify identity
    • Support will help recover

Extension Issues

Extension Not Working

Symptoms:

  • No trackers being blocked
  • Badge shows 0
  • Not detecting tracking

Solutions:

  1. Check extension is enabled

    • Open browser extensions page
    • Verify Ethikal is ON
    • Check permissions granted
  2. Refresh the page

    • Hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R)
    • Close and reopen tab
    • Try different website
  3. Re-authorize extension

    • Click extension icon
    • Click "Sign In"
    • Re-connect to account
  4. Reinstall extension

    • Remove extension
    • Restart browser
    • Reinstall from Chrome Web Store
    • Sign in again

Extension Slowing Down Browser

Symptoms:

  • Browser feels slow
  • High CPU/memory usage
  • Pages load slowly

Solutions:

  1. Check extension settings

    • Disable tracking history
    • Reduce custom filter lists
    • Lower privacy level temporarily
  2. Update extension

    • Check for updates
    • Install latest version
    • Restart browser
  3. Disable on specific sites

    • Whitelist heavy sites temporarily
    • Check if performance improves
    • Adjust settings accordingly

Website Broken with Extension

Symptoms:

  • Site doesn't load properly
  • Features not working
  • Forms won't submit

Solutions:

  1. Whitelist the site

    • Click extension icon
    • Click "Disable on this site"
    • Refresh page
  2. Allow specific trackers

    • Click extension icon
    • View blocked trackers
    • Allow necessary ones
    • Refresh page

Wallet Connection Issues

Wallet Won't Connect

Symptoms:

  • Connection fails
  • MetaMask doesn't open
  • Transaction rejected

Solutions:

  1. Check wallet is unlocked

    • Open MetaMask
    • Enter password
    • Try connecting again
  2. Check correct network

    • Switch to Ethereum Mainnet
    • Or Ethikal testnet for development
    • Refresh page
  3. Clear wallet cache

    • In MetaMask settings
    • Advanced > Reset Account
    • Reconnect to Ethikal
  4. Try different connection method

    • WalletConnect instead of MetaMask
    • Different wallet entirely
    • QR code connection

Wrong Network Error

Symptoms:

  • "Please switch to Ethereum network"
  • Transactions failing

Solutions:

  1. Switch network in wallet

    • Open MetaMask
    • Click network dropdown (top)
    • Select "Ethereum Mainnet"
  2. Add Ethikal network (if using testnet)

    Network Name: Ethikal Testnet
    RPC URL: http://localhost:8545
    Chain ID: 1337
    Currency Symbol: ETH
  3. Clear and reconnect

    • Disconnect wallet
    • Switch network
    • Reconnect

Transaction Stuck

Symptoms:

  • Transaction pending forever
  • Can't make new transactions

Solutions:

  1. Speed up transaction

    • Open MetaMask
    • Click pending transaction
    • Click "Speed Up"
    • Pay higher gas
  2. Cancel transaction

    • Click pending transaction
    • Click "Cancel"
    • Confirm cancellation
  3. Wait it out

    • Transactions eventually fail
    • Usually within 24 hours
    • Can try again after

Privacy & Tracking Issues

Privacy Score Not Updating

Symptoms:

  • Score hasn't changed
  • Stuck at same number

Solutions:

  1. Refresh dashboard

    • Hard refresh page
    • Log out and back in
    • Check from different device
  2. Check if score should change

    • Score updates daily
    • Requires significant changes
    • Minor tweaks may not affect score
  3. Verify extension is active

    • Extension must be running
    • Trackers must be getting blocked
    • Check extension badge

Trackers Not Being Blocked

Symptoms:

  • Trackers getting through
  • Low block count
  • Ads still showing

Solutions:

  1. Check privacy level

    • Go to Privacy settings
    • Ensure not set to "Off"
    • Increase privacy level
  2. Update block lists

    • Extension settings
    • Update filter lists
    • Restart browser
  3. Check whitelist

    • Review whitelisted sites
    • Remove unnecessary whitelists
    • Apply changes

Data Value Issues

Not Earning Value

Symptoms:

  • $0 value shown
  • No auctions recorded

Solutions:

  1. Ensure tracking allowed

    • Some tracking must be allowed
    • Can't earn with 100% blocking
    • Adjust privacy/value balance
  2. Browse more actively

    • Visit commercial sites
    • Show purchase intent
    • Engage with content
  3. Complete profile

    • Fill out demographics
    • Add interests
    • Verify information

Auction Data Missing

Symptoms:

  • No auction history
  • Empty auction page

Solutions:

  1. Check date range

    • Expand date filter
    • Select "All time"
    • Verify browsing during that time
  2. Verify extension connected

    • Extension must be authorized
    • Check connection status
    • Re-authorize if needed
  3. Allow time for sync

    • Auction data syncs hourly
    • Wait up to 2 hours
    • Refresh page

NFT Issues

Can't Mint NFT

Symptoms:

  • Mint button disabled
  • Transaction fails
  • Error message

Solutions:

  1. Check requirements

    • Wallet connected?
    • Enough ETH for gas?
    • Privacy score high enough?
  2. Check network status

    • Ethereum not congested?
    • Gas prices reasonable?
    • RPC endpoint working?
  3. Try again later

    • Network may be busy
    • Gas fees may be high
    • Wait for better conditions

NFT Not Showing

Symptoms:

  • Minted but not visible
  • Not in wallet
  • Not on Ethikal

Solutions:

  1. Check transaction status

    • View on Etherscan
    • Verify transaction confirmed
    • Check for errors
  2. Wait for sync

    • Ethikal: 5-10 minutes
    • Wallet: 15-30 minutes
    • OpenSea: 30-60 minutes
  3. Manually import to wallet

    • Get contract address
    • Get token ID
    • Import as custom NFT

Performance Issues

Slow Dashboard

Symptoms:

  • Pages load slowly
  • Lag when clicking
  • Timeouts

Solutions:

  1. Check internet connection

    • Run speed test
    • Restart router
    • Try different network
  2. Clear browser cache

    • Clear all cached data
    • Close other tabs
    • Restart browser
  3. Check server status

    • Visit status.ethikal.com
    • Check Twitter @EthikalStatus
    • Wait if outage

App Not Loading

Symptoms:

  • Blank page
  • Spinner forever
  • Error message

Solutions:

  1. Hard refresh

    • Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows)
    • Cmd+Shift+R (Mac)
    • Clears cached version
  2. Check browser console

    • F12 to open DevTools
    • Click Console tab
    • Look for errors

  3. Try different browser

    • Chrome recommended
    • Firefox works well
